I don’t know about you, but I reckon Rosie was dead brave, owning up like that. She’s normally such a proud person, it must have practically killed her. You’ve got to give her respect for that, haven’t you?

The funny thing was, she cheered up straight afterwards, as if she felt really relieved to have it off her chest. It must have been horrible for her, trying to keep it to herself all this time when the rest of us could talk about nothing else.

I gave her a big cuddle when we were saying goodbye. “Feel better now?” I asked.

“Yeah,” she said, starting to look more like her usual cheerful self. “Thanks, Lyndz. You’re a real mate and a half!”

I went a bit pink. “Let me know what your mum says about lessons!” I said, getting on my bike. “See you all at school tomorrow!”

I got back home just in time for our Sunday roast – and I was still starving, even after the plate of chips I’d munched through. Afterwards, I felt all sleepy from the combination of exercise and lovely food. So I decided that before I went out to collect sponsors for the swimathon, I’d cuddle up on the sofa and watch EastEnders with my snuggle blanket, and maybe even have a little nap…

Do you have a snuggle blanket? I know it’s a bit babyish of me to still have one, but I can’t get to sleep without it. I’ve had it since I was born and it’s this little pink fleecy cot blanket that Mum used to cover me up with. These days, it’s more of a grey-ish colour than pink, and there are a few shiny bits where the fleece has worn away, but it’s still one of my favourite things in the world.

Anyway, the only thing was, I went up to fetch it from my bedroom – and it wasn’t there! I looked everywhere – under the pillow, under the duvet, even down the side of the bed in case it had got wedged down there but… no snuggle. Weird! I just couldn’t think where else it could have got to. Mum hadn’t put it in the wash and all my brothers swore they hadn’t touched it – so where was it? The thought of having to spend the night without it was just… unthinkable!

“Well, it WAS getting a bit ancient, wasn’t it?” Mum said. She was trying to be comforting but I could feel my bottom lip getting all trembly at the thought of never having my snuggle to sleep with ever again.

“Mum, you haven’t thrown it out, have you?” I asked in horror, preparing myself for a dash to the dustbins.

“No, of course not!” she said, stroking my hair.

“Where can it be, then?” I moaned for the twentieth time.

“Tell you what,” she said quickly as my bottom lip went all trembly again, “while you’re out getting sponsors from the neighbours, I’ll have a good look for it in the washing basket and in your bedroom.
